SUMMARY:Webinar: Voluntary Carbon Markets and International Dispute Resolution
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to sponsor the Young Members Group of CIArb NAB webinar\, “Voluntary Carbon Markets and International Dispute Resolution”\, on Thursday July 14\, 2022 @ 12 p.m. EDT/9:00 a.m. PDT. \nThis webinar is a sequel to last year’s series on Climate Change\, Decarbonization\, and International Dispute Resolution\, which covered a range of climate-related issues including rules governing carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. \nModerated by Nicola Peart\, the panelists Paul Barker\, Matthew Cranford\, Luciana AquinoHagedorn\, and Jesse Mosier (see bios below) will discuss the evolution of voluntary carbon markets\, carbon finance\, and the relevance of international dispute resolution from inhouse\, private practice\, and investment advisory perspectives. \nThe webinar will focus on voluntary carbon markets\, in which businesses and financial institutions purchase carbon credits to neutralize (“offset”) their residual greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon credit-generating projects — from nature-based solutions such as forestry to climate tech solutions such as direct air capture — frequently involve complex cross-border legal issues. Globally\, demand for carbon credits is rapidly increasing as corporates and financial institutions make net zero pledges\, but there are serious questions over the precise role of carbon credits in achieving net zero\, as well as related concerns over market integrity and “greenwashing”. In the absence of detailed mandatory regulation\, voluntary initiatives such as the Integrity Council for Voluntary Carbon Markets (ICVCM) are seeking to establish principles governing the supply of high-quality carbon credits. \nPanelists and Moderator Bios: \nPaul Barker is a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP\, based in San Francisco. He is a member of the firm’s ESG & Impact practice\, focusing on climate-related matters for private equity and corporate clients\, including energy transition\, sustainable finance\, carbon markets\, and dispute resolution. Prior to Pachama\, Jesse was the General Counsel at Migo Money\, a fintech company with operations in Brazil and Nigeria. SUMMARY:Tech Arbitration Trends: SVAMC Joint Event With Hogan Lovells
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to join our upcoming panel discussion and networking drinks on Tuesday\, 12 July 2022.In a survey of 550 businesses released by Hogan Lovells in 2021\, 44% of respondents indicated that they had outsourced a key business function to a technology company in the last two years and half of those surveyed plan to outsource key business functions in the next two years. The use of joint ventures with technology companies was also popular with 39% of respondents having entered into a joint venture within the previous two years and 47% indicating that they had plans to do so in the next two years. Outsourcing and joint ventures in the technology sector come with many benefits and also with potential risks. As investment in technology outsourcing and joint ventures increases\, inevitably there will be an increase in disputes. As the dispute resolution mechanism of choice for international disputes many of these technology disputes will be resolved by international arbitration.  Our panel will discuss hot topics relating to the management of risks in the context of technology outsourcing and joint ventures as well as sharing insights on how to navigate the resolution of such disputes through the arbitration process. \nThis discussion will be live-streamed for those outside of London who are unable to attend in person. \nSpeakers \n\nSarah Reynolds\, CEO\, SVAMC\nPaul Cohen\, President\, SVAMC\nDr. Gill Hunt\, Independent expert witness in IT & Technology Disputes\, Hunt Lancaster\nMatthew Lavy\, Barrister\, 4 Pump Court\nAndrea Montague-Doghan\, Senior Associate\, Hogan Lovells\nLord Thomas of Cwmgiedd\, Arbitrator & Member of the House of Lords\nAnnie Lund\, Associate\, Hogan Lovells\nTom Smith\, Partner\, Hogan Lovells\n\nDate & Time \nJuly 12\, 2022\n9:30am PDT\n12:30pm EDT\n5:30pm BST \nClick here to register for the event

SUMMARY:ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Annual Spring Conference
DESCRIPTION:The ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Spring Conference is the largest ADR conference in the world\, typically attracting up to 700+ participants. Attendees gather to learn the latest in dispute resolution techniques and trends\, exchange ideas with experts and peers\, and strengthen their professional relationships. The 2022 ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Spring Conference will be held in Los Angeles\, CA from April 27-30 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites. \nThe theme of the 2022 Spring Conference:\nWhere Do We Grow from Here? New Directions and Rejuvenation\nAs we transition into a new era\, will we expand our reliance on technology or return to more traditional in-person connections? The other side of the pandemic presents opportunities to apply new approaches and lessons learned to advance and diversify our profession\, our teaching\, and our service to parties. Yet\, for some of us\, a return to pre-pandemic practices holds the greatest appeal. This year the Spring Conference looks to examine what we gain and lose as we explore hybrid systems\, new developments\, and established approaches to our profession. The conference programs will explore the evolution of legal representation\, dispute resolution systems and practice\, court systems\, and legal education in our new era. \nIn addition to our dispute resolution themed programs\, this year we are collaborating with the ABA Solo\, Small Firm and General Practice Division to include in the agenda a group of programs that will appeal to general practice\, solo\, and small firm practitioners. \nOur plan is to hold the conference in-person. All in-person events will follow local and CDC public health guidelines and regulations. We may also incorporate virtual programs as a supplement to the in-person conference\, subject to demand and capacity. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:International Intellectual Property and Arbitration: Innovation for a Better Future
DESCRIPTION:SVAMC is thrilled participate in the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission’s symposium entitled:  International Intellectual Property and Arbitration: Innovating for a Better Future. Among other esteemed speakers\, SVAMC CEO Sarah Reynolds (Goldman Ismail LLP\, Managing Partner) will be speaking on the arbitrability of IP disputes in the United States. \nGlobally\, transnational corporations and high-tech corporations are stepping up to meet the innovation and challenges of intellectual property. Transnational intellectual property commercial disputes are intertwined with bursts of energy\, ingenuity\, curiosity\, creativity and the path to a better future. Commercial arbitration\, one of the commercial dispute resolution mechanisms\, provides an effective way for transnational intellectual property commercial disputes. The New York Convention provides a worldwide commercial arbitration settlement mechanism\, but the particularity of the intellectual property system\, especially the public law\, determines that each contracting state has a different intellectual property arbitration system. \nSVAMC looks forward to continued collaboration with the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission. \nDate & Time\nMonday\, April 25\n19:30-22:30 Beijing Time\n13:30-16:30 Germany\n7:30-10:30am Eastern \nJoin a Zoom meeting \n\nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/j/82719348743?pwd=RzN1RkRtNWtNUHRKQlpiTExmd3BzUT09 \n\n\nConference number: 827 1934 8743 \n\n\nPassword: 283712
