Conna Weiner brings to her mediation and arbitration practice at JAMS a unique combination of domestic and international litigation, transactional and in-house experience after roles with outside counsel (Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in New York) and multinational life sciences and health care companies (including as a General or Lead Counsel with Novartis and other firms). She has extensive experience in the mediation and arbitration of complex commercial, technology, life sciences and healthcare matters with numerous providers, including the American Arbitration Association, ICDR, the Center for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR) and the American Association of Health Lawyers (AHLA) and JAMS. She is a Fellow with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and holds a number of leadership positions with bar and professional organizations.
Although she has decades of experience in general commercial and employment litigation representing both plaintiffs and defendants and is noted for her ability to help parties assess their positions, Ms. Weiner’s extensive transactional and deal work over the years help her rapidly appreciate the core issues involved in business matters in arbitrations and mediations and creatively assist parties in working out negotiated business solutions that help preserve relationships. Her inside counsel lens helps her understand and communicate with clients, view matters objectively from both the plaintiff and defendant’s perspective after years of evaluating the best way forward for her own companies and, given her generalist background, bring substantive understanding to virtually every major area of law that crosses a general counsel’s desk.
Ms. Weiner also had deep, hands-on expertise in the full range of unique, complex legal issues facing life sciences, health care and other technology companies, including every phase of product (such as pharmaceuticals, devices and diagnostics) research, development and commercialization and patent, trademark, noncompete and other important intellectual property-related issues. Her US and global roles in life sciences companies gave her a deep understanding of the overall health care environment and associated legal issues, as providers, payors and other health care entities were often her company’s, customers, contract partners and research and development collaborators. Since she has not directly represented payors or providers, she is often chosen in health care cases as knowledgeable, yet very neutral.
