Stephen S. Strick

Stephen S. Strick is a US and Singapore based full-time independent arbitrator and mediator who has served as the presiding chair, co- or sole arbitrator on more than 350 international and US seated ADR matters since 1982 when (in his early 30s), he was appointed to the American Arbitration Associations Commercial Panel of Neutrals*. Stephen maintains a busy full-time practice and is listed as a neutral on the rosters of most major ADR provider organizations**.

Stephen was educated at Stanford University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a particular interest in Arms Control and Disarmament theory and practice. He also had the good fortune to study Renaissance Art at Stanford’s campus in Florence, Italy.

Stephen also received a Juris Doctorate from what is now The University of California Law San Francisco studying private international law and conflicts of laws and worked as clerk for Professor Rudolf Schlessinger.

Stephen’s interest and curiosity about the nature of conflictual behavior in human interactions—including in the business world—eventually led him to study psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute where he earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology with an Emphasis in Depth Psychology.

Prior to starting his ADR practice, Stephen was a film and television lawyer and a senior studio executive and ultimately a producer, working on the production, financing and/or distribution and international sales of hundreds of motion pictures, including such iconic films as Rocky, Carrie, the Pink Panther Series, the James Bond Series, Star Wars, Dune, Blue Velvet, Conan the Barbarian and many others, both independently as well as for such companies as United Artists Corporation, HBO, and Dino DeLaurentiis Corporation. He was also in private practice at the predecessor to the storied entertainment law firm Loeb & Loeb where he represented motion picture actors, writers, directors, banks, and other institutions in their film related businesses.

In addition to currently working with a busy docket, Stephen devotes much time and attention to the activities to the College of Commercial Arbitrators, where he is a Fellow and serves as its Vice President and as a member of the College’s Executive Committee and on its Board of Directors. Stephen is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, and the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration.

In addition to being a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators, Stephen was a former member of the Bar Association of the City of New York, The American Bar Association (ADR Section), and U.S. Council for International Business.

He is also a voting member of the Executive Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences spending much time watching and judging feature films, foreign films, shorts, documentaries, and student entries.

When not working or enjoying private time with his family, Stephen volunteers his time, services and has donated resources to numerous charities and organizations including the AAA- ICDR Foundation (serving as its New York Ambassador and Chair’s Circle Donor), the International League of Human Rights, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the American Film Institute, Counseling West, and others.
