Cynthia H. Cwik

Cynthia Cwik, FCIArb, is an arbitrator and mediator with JAMS. She has significant experience with ADR proceedings, including domestic and international arbitrations and mediations and mass arbitrations. She has handled numerous high-value commercial ADR matters. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Academy of Court-Appointed Neutrals.

Throughout her career, she has been a nationally recognized leader in issues at the intersection of science, technology, and the law. She has developed extensive experience regarding emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the AI Task Force of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center, and Secretary. She has served as Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Presidential Task Force on Law and Artificial Intelligence. She is the co-editor of the book Artificial Intelligence: Legal Issues, Policy, and Practical Strategies (2024). She has served as Chair of the ABA Science & Technology Law Section.

For twenty years, she was a litigation partner at Latham & Watkins and Jones Day, where she represented major companies in complex commercial litigation and ADR matters. She has handled high-stakes commercial legal disputes in diverse fields, and has extensive experience with class actions and mass torts. She is widely acclaimed for her success in the legal profession, including being selected numerous times as one of “California’s Top Female Litigators” by the Los Angeles/San Francisco Daily Journals. A journalist described Cynthia as having “fierce focus and keen attention to scientific detail," and as an “indefatigable and accomplished litigator.” She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US).

She graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Yale College, and she received her JD from Yale Law School. After graduation, she clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit (Honorable Thomas J. Meskill).
