Elizabeth (Lizzie) Chan

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Chan (陳曉彤) is an experienced dispute resolution practitioner based in Hong Kong with a robust background in handling high-value, high-stakes, and complex disputes. She is a Foreign Legal Manager at Stevenson, Wong & Co.

Over the past decade, she has cultivated extensive expertise in international and cross-border arbitration and litigation and, more recently, has qualified as an international mediator. Her practice is global in scope. She has worked in and qualified as counsel in New York, New Zealand, and England and Wales. She will be admitted as a Hong Kong solicitor in 2014.

In her counsel role, she has provided strategic advice and representation in approximately twenty arbitrations, encompassing international commercial, investment treaty, and WIPO domain name disputes. She has acted in international arbitrations under major international arbitral rules (including the AAA-ICDR, HKIAC, ICSID, LCIA and UNCITRAL) in worldwide arbitral seats (including Austria, Hawaii, London, Hong Kong and Singapore). Her sector focus is diverse, covering areas such as oil and gas, intellectual property, pharmaceuticals, technology/crypto, real estate, and insolvency.

Lizzie has been a Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Centre (SVAMC) Board Member since January 2021. She served on the nine-member committee that drafted the SVAMC’s Guidelines on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Arbitration, issued in April 2024.

As a trained Tribunal Secretary with the HKIAC, Lizzie has assisted with drafting arbitral awards. She is also a qualified mediator with the International Mediation Institute, having trained at IM Campus and Family Mediation Canada. She is currently pursuing certification as an elder mediator, focusing on mediation in elder care contexts.

Recognised as a Future Leader of Who’s Who Legal - Arbitration from 2022 to 2024 and as one of the four most highly regarded individuals in the Asia-Pacific region in 2022 (also by WWL), Lizzie has also been ranked in Legal 500’s inaugural Asia Arbitration Power List 2023.

Lizzie speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Beyond her professional endeavours, she is actively involved in the NGO sector, serving in significant board and leadership positions. She was a Board Director of ArbitralWomen from 2022 to 2024 and currently serves as Director of Pro Bono Hong Kong, Regulatory Co-Chair of Girls Just Wanna Have Fund$ and Co-Chair of YaleWomen Hong Kong, demonstrating her commitment to giving back to the community and supporting charitable causes.
