Doak Bishop has served as an arbitrator in approximately 100 cases, including AAA Commercial and Large Complex cases, ICDR, ICC, CPR, LCIA, SIAC, ICSID and UNCITRAL Rules ad hoc arbitrations. He has taught courses on International Arbitration at the Universities of Texas, Oklahoma, Houston, and SMU. He has written and spoken extensively on the subject of international arbitration and the psychology of decision-making and persuasion.
Doak is a Partner in King & Spalding’s Dallas and Houston Offices, and founder of King & Spalding’s International Arbitration Practice Group in 2000, which has been ranked No. 1 in the world by GAR and Law 360 for several years.
Doak has handled arbitrations in all aspects of the energy industry including renewable energy, technology, construction, and environmental cases, and has advised clients on the use of AI in arbitrations, working with an AI company to build a platform for a large case. Extensive experience in mock arbitrations and other exercises preparing for hearings. Extensive experience in foreign investment arbitrations. Experience in software and data processing contracts, turbines and generators, pharma clinical trials, and energy industry technology.
Doak served as Chair of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration and on the Boards of AAA and ASIL, on the Courts of LCIA and SIAC, and on the panels of several arbitral institutions in North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Advisor to ALI on the Restatement of the Law of International Commercial Arbitration. Involved in arbitrations ranging from $1 million to $50 billion.
Doak received his B.A. degree with High Honors and Departmental Distinction from Southern Methodist University (1973), and J.D. degree with Honors from the University of Texas Law School (1976), Research Editor of the Texas Law Review.
