On January 27, 2026, the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center (SVAMC) and Jus Mundi launched the first session of their 2026 joint webinar series, AI in Arbitration: The Current State of Play. The program brought together arbitration practitioners from around the world to examine how artificial intelligence is already reshaping dispute resolution, often faster than formal guidance has evolved.
Featuring Abdi Aidid, Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and Canada Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Access to Justice, alongside Annie Lesperance, Head of Americas at Jus Mundi and SVAMC AI Task Force Member, the session provided a clear-eyed overview of generative AI and its practical implications for arbitration. Speakers explored how AI tools are currently being used by counsel and arbitrators, including for document review, research, and drafting, while also highlighting uneven adoption, ethical considerations, and emerging risks.
The discussion emphasized practical decision-making, focusing on when and how AI can be responsibly incorporated into arbitration practice. The session concluded with a live Q&A, underscoring strong interest from the arbitration community in developing shared norms and informed approaches as AI capabilities continue to evolve.
This webinar marks the first installment of a four-part series. Future sessions are tentatively scheduled for April, July, and September 2026.
